Have you ever had the feeling that the harder you try to get shit done, the more you’re chasing your own tail?
I used to feel this way all the time. It took years of experimenting and learning about yoga and lifestyle design to shift to a place where my life felt calm and in control. So it felt like a big setback when I found that overwhelm creeping in again over the last few months. I started feeling like any day now, one of the balls I was juggling was going to hit the mud, and this began to undermine my confidence in all of my life. All the stuff I teach about being present, having strong boundaries, working smarter not harder, began to sound more and more hollow to me as I wasn’t feeling I was able to these things myself.
This went on for several weeks before I got things back into rhythm. And it makes me almost laugh at how simple it was. My morning routine had gotten sloppy. All it took to get me back to that place of feeling calm and grounded was being more conscious with how I use the first 30 minutes of my day. It’s no accident that there are tons of articles dedicated to the morning habits of highly successful people. How you begin sets the tone for the entire day.
Believe it or not, there are 3 simple things you can do first thing every day that will improve your life exponentially. To make it easier, they all start with M! But take note, for this have the greatest impact, you have to do them BEFORE you check your phone. Your messages will wait for you.
10-15 mins mindfulness meditation. You can do this in bed! Just make sure your ‘mindfulness meditation’ doesn’t become more like ‘hitting snooze’. Sit up or get up if you need to.
10 - 15 mins of movement. It could be yoga, Qi Gong, jumping jacks, a run.
This is something that reaffirms how you want the day to be. Lots of people like to make the bed. Some people like to read a prayer or a quote for the day.
If you try this, you’ll the benefits immediately and the more you do the more the results with accumulate. Seriously, try it and let me know your results!
Have a great week. With love,
